  • Glispa (Tracy)- I learned that Glispa was kidnapped at the age of 16 and still ended up being great friends with her kidnappers.
  • Guan Yin (Jaci)- Even though I have known Guan Yin for many years I still learned that she has to save all the souls from earth before going to heaven.
  • Hathor (Ciarra)- I learned that Hathor is responsible for the conception of childbirth.
  • Jade Emperor (Bridget)- I learned from the Jade Emperor that he is a vegetarian.
  • Komorkis (Ania)- From Komorkis, I learned that she is the reason for light during the night time, along with coolness and moisture.
  • Loki (Hunter)- I learned that Loki was not actually born a god, but had to work his way up to the position of a god.
  • Maat (Francie)- I learned that Maat was responsible for wheather or not souls went to heaven or hell.
  • Nut (Rachel)- I learned that Nut makes up the sky.
  • Odin (Jake)- I learned that Odin had to give up and eye to drink from Mimir's Well of wisdom.
  • Pandora (Emily)- I learned that Pandora was the first mortal woman ever on Earth.
  • Raven (Sarah)- I learned that Raven likes to trick Coyote more than Coyote likes to trick Raven.
  • Rhea (Emily)- I learned that Rhea's main symbol is the lion, which keeps order Earth.
  • Sekhmet (Reagan)- I learned that Sekhmet almost killed the whole human population on Earth.
  • Thor (Cody)- I learned that Thor's hammer is named Mjollnir.

In this blog, I will be retelling the myth that I have been telling you all about. I will tell this myth from my point of view though, so it might be a little bit different from what you have heard before. I hope that you enjoy the retelling of this myth. Here goes nothing.

I have been captured by the Jade Emperors soldiers, and they have been ordered to execute me. They gave it their all, and tried every trick that they had to put me into my final rest, but because I had taken the Jade Emperor's pill, and drank some of his liquor, I was immortal. Because of this, they went to the Jade Emperor, and told him that I was unable to be killed. As a last ditch effort they came back and threw me in the Eight Trigrams Fire, which is pretty much a furnace, for 49 days.

After those 49 days the soldiers came back to bring my body out of the fire, but right when they opened up the furnace, but to their surprise I jumped out at the first second that it was opened and started to fight everybody that I saw. This fight took me all through heaven, and was eventually ended when the gods cornered me. The Buddha then came up to me and gave me a challenge. He said that if I could jump off of his right hand, then he would give heaven to me. Seeming a simple task, I jumped as far as I could, wrote "Great Sage Equal to Heaven" on the pillars there, then urinated on the ground. After jumping back and telling the Buddha to give heaven to me, he then looked down at his middle finger, and I saw where I had jumped to, and my urine was also on his hand. This made me feel much more humble, and the Buddha locked me under the Five Finger Mountain for as long as it took for me to repent for all of my sins.

After I had been imprisoned for all of my wrongdoings, all of the gods were ecstatic. Because of this, they threw a giant party and all gods were invited. This party was called "The Banquet to Celebrate Peace in Heaven." The Buddha was celebrated at this party for finally subduing me. He got many gifts from all of the gods. Buddha was thanked very much for he had saved the heavens and saved all the gods.

All myths need a resolution to the problem at hand. The resolution of this myth was not the best outcome from my standpoint. What ended up happening was, Buddha stopped my fighting, and told me if I could jump off of his hand that I could have heaven. This was a trick, of course, so I jumped as far as I could then jumped back and told the Buddha to give me heaven. The Buddha then told me to look down, and I saw to where I had jumped from on his finger. The Buddha then locked me under the five elements mountain for a thousand years to repent for my sins. At this the Jade Emperor threw a huge party with all of the other deity's, because I had finally been subdued for all of the wrongs that I had done to him.

The climax of this story was when I jumped out of the Eight Trigams Furnace, after being in it for 49 consecutive days. This was the climax, because it was not expected to happen, and afterwords, I started to fight all of the guards around me. Me getting out alive was so astounding, because they though for sure that I was not going to make it through for all of that time, and no one else had ever done the same thing. After I got out, I started to reek havoc in heaven, but was eventually stopped by the Jade Emperor.

As with almost every myth that I am in, the conflict revolves around me. The conflict in this myth, though, is that I have been captured, then I escape and cause havoc. So I am actually the conflict. What happens is that the Jade Emperor's soldiers are ordered to kill me, but they are unable to. Because of this, they use their last resort, which is the fires of the Eight Trigrams Furnace. shown
here, with me being thrown in, and the Jade Emperor watching.

After being in the furnace for 49 days, they bring me out, thinking I am dead, and I start to fight the soldiers of heaven. This fight brings us to the hall of universal brightness. Then I start another fight with the soldier here. This was the biggest fight, and when it was done, the Jade Emperor put me in prison and threw a giant party with many dietys. The main conflict of this story was that the Jade Emperor could not kill me, because I, with magic, made myself unable to be executed.

In this myth, the two main people mentioned are me and the Jade Emperor. You guys already know a lot about me, so I am just going to go straight to the Jade Emperor. First off, the Jade Emperor is the ruler of heaven. He also created the universe, and is the leader of the imperial court. He also does not like me all that much. I guess he has good reason to though, seeing that I did technically break into one of his feasts in this myth and ruin it. To put things short, the Jade Emperor is the ruler of everything that you can hear, see touch or smell. It does make me feel good though, that I am the only other deity that is ever compared to this person that is about as high in society that you can get.

The only real myth that I am in is Journey To the West, but every chapter is practically a story in itself. The chapter that I have chosen to share is Chapter Seven of the novel. This time I will be telling what the setting of this chapter is like. This chapter is set in Heaven, at the Jade Emporer's palace. Here I was brought to the imperial presence in order to get executed. This place was like torture, and very loud, because they were trying to kill me any way that they could, but they could not. So after 40 some days in a fire I was let out and I went straight to the Hall of Universal Brightness, which is very fancy, because it is part of where the Jade Emperor lives. I started a big fight here though, and afterwords the place was all tore up and looked horrible. The last place that this story was set was in the dining hall where they had the feast after I had been locked up in prison. This was a very loud party, with great smells and tastes of food. There were many deites here celebrating.

The first cultural reference that I am associated with is the Sun Wu Kong festival. This festival that is just for me takes place on the sixteenth day of the eighth lunar month of the Chinese lunar calender. At this festival some things that may go on are the burning of paper and incense as offerings just for me. There might also be a recreation of the battle that I had between the gods in heaven. Another reference to me in the human world is the Buddhist temple in Xiumaoping, Hong Kong, which is a shrine that has been dedicated to me. Lastly, I have been used in many films and television shows. The last film that I was depicted in was a show called Forbidden Kingdom.

Monkey King again. I have no real responsibilities that I am always working on, other than running around, and doing what people want me not to do and being the king of the whole ape population. I have had a couple jobs assigned for me to do though, like when Guan-Yin made me the chief disciple of the young buddhist monk Tripitaka, and sent me and two other spirits, Sandy and Pigsy, to bring this by to India.

Because I am a monkey, I am associated with monkeys, but other than that I am not really associated with anything. I came from the mountain of Fruit and Flowers in China, where the mountain had been soaking up the goodness of nature until it hatched an egg, and from that egg, I was born. The main culture that is associated with me is the Chinese culture. All in all my personality is just being high spirited, egotistical, and full of pranks to pull on people and gods. My friends include Father Subhodi, who I was a disciple to, Buddha, the Jade-Emporer, and  Guan-Yin. One enemy that I had though was Ao-Kuang, who was a dragon that terrorized my fellow monkeys. One symbol that has to do with me is the Magic-Golden-Clapsed Rod, which was my weapon of choice.

Hello there, my name is Sun Wu Kong, but I prefer to go by Monkey King. All in all my features are just the features that a monkey would have, because as you can see, I am a monkey after all. I am also rather small, I have a tail, grim monkey features, and lastly, wiry limbs. I also usually wear a robe as my clothes. The only family that I have is the rock that released my egg. This is how I was born. Other than that though, I have no real family. The quality that I have is to be mischievous whenever it is possible. The one weakness that I have, though, is the fear of death. Because of this I set out to find a way to live forever.
